Can't access workgroupknowledge. Simple network - 2 computers running XP home and a router Browstat showed error 53. Laptop was away for keyboard repair, came back with proxy settings that fouled up IE and IM, so no surprise that I can't get access to the workgroup. Other network changes while laptop was away included new router, and new Norton antivirus in second computer. restrictanonymous = 0 on both disabling Zonealarm on both doesn't help the computers can ping each other by number Status for domain ATTBI on transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{23087A7A-3766-4841-9F0B-2EF50330C31C} Browsing is NOT active on domain. I discovered that in the course of trying to debug the problem about why the new router prevents printing, the steps involved changing network connections on the second computer. Restarting both computers fixed the problem. I'm afraid I had only tried restarting the one with the problem. Sorry to anyone who took the time to read the above details. I found that in the course of going through the debugging steps of why the printer no longer works with the new router, printer tech support had me change some physical network connections on the second computer without restarting. Restarting both computers fixed the problem with the first computer. I had only be restarting the first computer. I'm sorry if anyone waded through all the details above. This seemed like the appropriate thread to psot my question, have never used
this forum so i apologise if i posted this were it aint supposed to be. My question: i set up a small LAN with 2 desktop comps conected thru a linksys wireless g router. i can access my shared documents fine from both comps but what i want is to be able to give full permission to the workstation comp. on the workstation i cant install programs. i need to know how to give full access to the other computer and(or) how to make workstation access programs on main computer since its not allowed to install them eg iTunes. The installation process creates support files and configuration information that are needed for program execution. If you try to run a program that's installed on another computer, those things won't be found. One possible solution is to use a remote control program, like RealVNC, to operate the main computer from the workstation: http://www.realvnc.com However, I doubt that iTunes will work well remotely. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Program http://mvp.support.microsoft.com I think i was Misunderstood. what i want to do is be able to do regular stuff
on my workstation eg itunes without being told i don't have permission. i need to know how to grant permission to the workstation. i tried installing itunes on the workstation but it said i dont have permission i also tried retrieving a ms word document and edit but it said it is write protected. real vnc says it allows me to control another computer but i dont want to control the main one from the workstation i just want to remove those restrictions of write protected and not being to install programs on work station Show quoteHide quote "Steve Winograd [MVP]" wrote: > In article <1AF3FD54-81AA-434C-AC90-94200BFAB***@microsoft.com>, > TaRiRo-SaMa <TaRiRo-S***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: > >This seemed like the appropriate thread to psot my question, have never used > >this forum so i apologise if i posted this were it aint supposed to be. > > > >My question: i set up a small LAN with 2 desktop comps conected thru a > >linksys wireless g router. i can access my shared documents fine from both > >comps but what i want is to be able to give full permission to the > >workstation comp. on the workstation i cant install programs. > > > >i need to know how to give full access to the other computer and(or) how to > >make workstation access programs on main computer since its not allowed to > >install them eg iTunes. > > Most programs have to be installed on a computer in order to run on > that computer.
