Trying to update a Java add-on in my browser. When I go to Manage Add-ons and
tell it to update the  add-on, I receive the following message:

Windows has blocked this software because it can't verify the publisher.
Attempt to update this add-on failed.

I tried changing my internet settings to low for this purpose, but it still
wouldn't update it. Please help. Thnx.

I have encountered this problem as well and I found out that it was to do
mainly with the windows firewall and not necessarly the internet explorer.

If you are downloding from a respected site the unblock and windows should
remember this.
