Problems with VPN using Windows And Router.I have been trying to setup an VPN connection between two personal
computers. One is my sons and one is mine. I have setup windows to accept incoming connections, so that it lets VPN connections to be made. then with his PC i have put my Public IP address the one given to me by the ISP and tried to connect but everytime i try it just says that the host is unreachable and wheather i want to redial. The user account that i am using to logon with is the same at both ends. I am using a Netgear DG834GT Router. I have checked my log and it shows that nothing has tried to connect to me. I have pinged my router and it works. So the Router is on the internet but either he router is not routing the messages. I have looked for Port forwarding for the router and the router does not need to be setup in this way becuase it automatically lets VPN connections through. Can anyone help me?

If that's the case you need to forward TCP Port 1723 on the router the server PC is behind and make sure the router also passes GRE Protocol 47 traffic. The latter is sometimes called "PPTP Pass Through" or "VPN Pass Through" depending on the manufacturer of the router. Note that some consumer grade routers have issues with GRE Protocol 47 traffic. When i try to connect to the client computers or even if the client connects to the server and try to access the shared areas using explorer in \\server\sharedarea format it does not connect and does not list the other computer in the workgroup computers. I dont know wheather it is supposed to but i know it should let the users access the other computers shared areas "naza" <naza***@hotmail.co.uk> wrote in message If your trying to access the server, or other PCs on the remote network, by news:1167341252.491714.231610@n51g2000cwc.googlegroups.com... > Thanx for the link.
