Servers not available/not granted logon typeI have spent the last week or so trying to get my PC and my laptop to share one measly folder. I just need to copy the files from one huge folder to the laptop, although I would like to make them share with each other so I can share other files in the future. Here is the problem: PC Name: Kostyo1 (Windows XP Pro 2002, Service Pack 2 on a Compaq Presario) Laptop Name: Sir (Windows XP 2002 Media Center Edition, Service Pack 2 on a HP Pavillion) I bought a CAT5 Crossover cable and I have connected the PC and laptop. Under, "Network Connections," the Local Area Connections on both computers say, "Connected." On the laptop, a new "Internet Gateway" subhead pops up and shows a new Local Area Connection, "Kostyo1" and it says connected. Nothing similar shows up on the PC. When I try to click on, "View workgroup computers" on the laptop, I get the following message: "Mshome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available." When I click on the same thing on the PC, I can see the laptop in the network. But when I try to click on it, I get the following message: "\\Sir is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer." I have turned off all firewalls. On the PC, I have McAfee, which I disabled using the services.msc command in "Run" and then disabling all McAfee processes. On the laptop, I disabled Norton Internet Security. On both, I disabled the Windows firewall and unchecked the firewall boxes for the specific connection. Both computers are on the MSHOME workgroup. I have tried to change the local security policies on the laptop, but I can't allow the PC because the laptop can't find the network. With XP Pro and MCE, your problem will probably be a couple of Local Security Policies that you need to check. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html#Help> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html#Help -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
