cannot access workgroup

I have a Dell Latitude D810 laptop running Windows XP pro sp2 (I upgraded it
from XP Home) have a wireless network at the office - workgroups no domain
(Windows 2000 server) and a wireless network at home - workgroups no domain
(peer to peer - Windows 2000 and Windows XP Pro machines - no server).   I
cannot access my workgroup at the office - I have the same named workgroup at
home as at the office.   I cannot see anything on the network either.  I can
get on to the internet through the LAN.  I do have an automatically assigned
IP address from the server.  I can access the server or any other computer on
the network by using their IP address.  The error messge I receive when
trying to view workgroup compters is: " Trucking {my workgroup name} is not
accessible.  You might not have permission to use this network resource.
Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access
permissions.  The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently
available."  I am signed on with administrator privleges and the user name
and password for this laptop is the same as for my desktop and I can reach
everything from it.

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

With a mobile computer, attached alternately to two different workgroups, you
have a challenge.

The specific message "The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently
available." could be a firewall problem (read the entire first article please),
or it could be a protocol issue.  NetBT is the normal protocol for small LANs,
so make sure that NetBT is consistently Enabled on all computers.

It is the Norton Personal Firewall in Norton Internet Security that won't let
me through.  If I disable it I can see and do everything.  I will contact
Symantec to get there advise on how to handle.  Do I really need their
Internet Security or can I just use Windows XP's security?

It should be possible to configure NPF properly, it's used on thousands of small
LANs.  But NPF doesn't provide any features that WF doesn't.  So I would say,
it's up to you.  WF is fine, so is NPF.  Both are, however, only 1 portion of a
properly designed layered security strategy.
