IP conflict due to old fix IPHi
I had this problem a few years ago but have forgotten how to solve it. I have looked at all the forums out on the net and no one is able to solve it, only advise is to use a different ip address which is not really a solution. I have a windows xp sp2 pc and am trying to set a fixed ip address for it. The network connection is appearing as "local area connection 2". When I set the ip address it tells me that another nic on the computer has the same ip and it could cause an issue do i want to continue. I know that this is caused by the "local area connection 1" still being remembered by windows which had this same ip address set for it - I remember there was a way to go into advance settings or something and remove it from memory as it remembers it for when you put the network card that is associated with these settings back in the pc. One computer by itself would not have such a conflict. If you have few computers with a Network please describe what you have. In many cases such problem comes from a static IP that is assigned with a number that is within a Cable/DSL Router's DHCP server. If you do a ping of the ip with the conflict there is no reply I have put the computer off the network and the problem still happens I know the issue occured to me last time (a couple of years ago) because a network card that had a fixed ip address on was physically removed. The new network card was different and would have the same warning about ip conflict when setting the ip address as the old nic. I was also not able to get "Local Area Network Connection" to appear only "Local Area Network Connection 2" or "Local Area Network Connection 3" etc. In the end it turned out that I needed to either put the old nic back in and set it to dhcp or there was an advanced network area somewhere, where you could delete "Local Area Network Connection" from so that windows didn't remember its settings as I think it thinks the nic is still there just that it is in a power saving state or disabled. Microsoft TCP/IP The IP address 10.5.2.25 you have entered for this network adapter is already assigned to another adapter 'Intel 21140-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter (Generic)'. 'Intel 21140-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter (Generic)' is hidden from the Network Connections folder because it is not physically in the computer. If the same address is assigned to both adapters and they both become active, only one of them will use this address. This may result in incorrect system configuration. Do you want to enter a different IP address for this adapter in the list of IP addresses in the Advanced dialog box? connected it to the network again but it is able to ping everyone on the network but no one is able to ping it If I change the address to another ip it can be ping'd fine. I have checked everything, dhcp server etc but no conflicts appear to be on the network with that address.... hklm/system/services/tcpip/interfaces. find out which one was lan1 and delete it then reboot and see if that fixes it
