Networking My PrinterI have a local network with a HP Photosmart 6180 printer. My wife has
managed to connect to it wirelessly by adding the printer via Control Pnl -> Add Printer/Fax. When I tried the same thing from my laptop, it was a no go. I suspect it's because I have a network set up via Win, SUNSPOT. How do I proceed for the above printer. -- W. eWatson (121.015 Deg. W, 39.262 Deg. If it is network printer, the printer has to be connect with wire, or Wireless, to a Wireless Cable DSL/Router, and then it can be connected to through the Router from any wired and wireless computer on the Network (provided that the correct printer's drivers were installed on each computer). It might be that your wife's computer connects to the printer by itself in Ad-Hoc mode, and thus it has nothing to do with the Network. If this is the case you can do the same when she is off the connection to the printer. printer. I tried the install about 30' from the printer, but I was easily on the wirless side of things when connecting to the internet. According to her, she went through the Ctrl Panel Add Printer. She tried it on my laptop, but it always seemed to head off to my local network, SUNSPOT, where nothing seemed right. That is, I had to identify a printer. Maybe it's possibly to get the ID from within XP? If the printer is a Network printer it has to be connected to the network. Once connected to the Network each computer need to be equipped with the printer's network drivers/software and the connection is done trough the Network. The printer's manual should explain how to use the printer as a network printer. If it is not a network printer, then it should be connected only to One Computer and shared via the computer. and desktop via an ethernet cable and not wirlessly. I don't even have my laptop set up for a wireless connection. The need has disappeared. Acrobat had broken down and I had hauled the pdf over to my laptop to use Acrobat there, and "supposedly" print it. Not so. Thanks for the comments. This is going on the back burner. I probably will get the laptop to connect to the printer sometime in the near future.
