internet speedsbit of a long 1 this try to keep brief but my isp speed is 2 mb recently
installed a 2.0 usb port cos i was told it would give me faster speeds. have bt 1055 usb wireless adapter with an orange box but i can only get speeds of 54mbps the adapter says upto 30% faster speeds. how do i get this speed? thanks guys Hi
If the 2Mb/sec. is what you get from the Internet connection and it is within your contract you can not speed it up on your side. Faster local component might increase local traffic, like moving files from one computer to another, but would affect the Internet connection per-se. i think i may have made a mistake with my figures i.e line speed 2 mb pc speed 54.0 mbps. does your reply still apply only i cant understand why they sell adapters or pci cards advertised at say 104mbps. am i missing something here? The standard of 802.11g is 54Mb/sec., some vendors (D-Link as an example) sell also propriety versions that work with their Matching hardware D-Link calls it SuperG which is rated double the regular. In any case if the Wireless source and the Wireless client are 3 feet apart the 54Mb/sec. would functionally provide about 2Mb/sec. the SuperG about 36Mb/sec. ( http://www.ezlan.net/net_speed.html ). However none of this has to do with Internet connection. Some adapters have
'speed boost' features that work only with a wireless router or AP with matching capability. Given that your current throughput exceeds your broadband speed, there would be no benefit to a faster PC-Wireless router connection for Internet use.
