Hi

I have 2 xp pro computers one with SP2 and one with SP3. I have logged on
both computers with admin logon and shard folders on both computers. Now the
SP3 computer can access folders on the SP2 computer but the SP2 computer
cannot access folders on the SP3 computer. Both of the computers are on the
same domain. But in this particular problem I have connected the two
computers using a direct cable and even though they can ping each other and
see each other in Network neighbourhood, one cannot access the others
folders.
If two XP SP2 computers are connected in the same way there is no problem.
The problems arises with SP3 computer. The error message i receive is that
computer is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network
resource.
Please contact the system admin to know if you have access permissions.

This started after upgrading the computers to SP3. In the secpol.msc of both
computers, Everyone has permissions to access computers from the network.

Please help
Thanks,

Check out this previous thread I wrote on.

'Windows file sharing problems' (http://tinyurl.com/bkbnsr)

The thread may not apply to you exactly but some troubleshooting tips there may be useful.

Also you could try using Simple File Sharing in case you were using a different permissions setting; it can sometimes clear up issues. In addition, perhaps upgrading the other SP2 PC to SP3 may help (I know it is annoying and seemingly illogical but so is Microsoft).

Thanks for the response.

I have not checked your link today but I came across it during my research
on the net for my problem.

By default all the computers have simple file sharing enabled and I have
also tried to connect two XP SP3 computers. Both computers see each other in
the neighbourhood but cannot access each other's shares. So I am still at a
loss for why this only affects SP3 computers.
