strange internet problemthe ability to surf the web and check pop email/newsgroups. The computer can access other network shares and even stuff locally, but a web browser will not work nor will an email client. But to add to the confusion I can open a command prompt and ping websites just fine and get decent responses, ie 30-90ms on common sites like google yahoo etc. I've been getting pretty frustrated over this because every other computer on the network works normally for all network activity and internet access. When I open the status of my network card I can see the out/in activity. When I make lan requests such as file shares etc activity is fast and instant. If I make a web browser request you'll see perhaps just a couple k of activity and then many many seconds later you'll see what appears to be normal activity when a page loads. ie when I'm in a browser and I type usps.com my browser will have a blank white screen until the page actually loads about 25 seconds later. I tried loading godaddy.com shortly after and nothing loaded until about 38 seconds and the the site images etc did not completely load until about 56 seconds. If I try the same sites again it will still always be very slow, so what I mean is that it is not always 25 seconds for usps.com or 56 seconds for godaddy.com, its' random but it is always very slow. BUT the big thing here is that, this is only if it even works at all, seriously most of the time it just doesn't work at all. I thought MAYBE it was my network card. So I bought a new one and I have the same problem still. To test even further, I tried connecting my computer directly to the modem and I STILL have the same problem. Well, mostly. Meaning I at least can connect to email and web, BUT the time it takes to actually load a website is ridiculously slow DESPITE DSL reports info showing 2520kb down, 422 up and 22ms on the san francisco server I'm really at a loss and really need stable internet on my computer. I'm open for ANY suggestions. Hi
Fist check the computer for any Viruses and Spywares. Then try to repair the WinSock, http://www.ezlan.net/clean.html#refreshnet Jack (MS, MVP-Networking) Show quoteHide quote "Robbie" <me@nospam.com> wrote in message news:OW6TuL2mJHA.3380@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > I'm having an odd problem with 1 computer on my network where it just > loses the ability to surf the web and check pop email/newsgroups. > > The computer can access other network shares and even stuff locally, but a > web browser will not work nor will an email client. I ran the winsock and LSP fix but it hasn't made any difference.
