Setting XP-Pro's Network PermissionsEthernet cable. When I try to run Acronis True Image Management Console on Win98SE with Acronis Agent installed on WinXP-Pro, I am supposed to be able to back up a partition on 98 to a hard drive on XP. The Management Console on 98 can find the name of the XP-Pro computer correctly but it generates the following message when I try to connect to it: "Specify correct logon information for remote computer. Please contact with system administrator about permissions or remote authorization rules." Can this be a problem with setting permissions correctly on XP? I can view XP files using Explorer on 98SE, but I suspect that I am required to set an additional kind of permission to allow the two programs to communicate with each other across the network. Can anyone explain what I must do? Stan Hilliard Hi
Make sure that the Software Firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall On, Vista/XP Native Firewall should be Off, and the active Firewall has to adjusted to your Network IP numbers on what is some time called the Trusted Zone (consult your 3rd Party Firewall instructions. Alternatively you can burn a Boot CD of TrueImage. Boot with it the Win98 Computer, and backup the drive through the Network to the WinXP. Jack (MVP-Networking). They could not see it either. So I uninstalled the Acronis Console. But the computer is still not connected to the network -- according to Windows Explorer. I try to see the Win98SE computer from the XP-Pro computer. I cannot see it with explorer, but I can find it by name using explorer's [search] button and entering the computer's name. My first goal is to get the computer back on the network. After that to maybe find a way to run Acronis. What does it all mean? Stan Hilliard |
