Accessing shared folders over the internet.

I'm trying to access a shared workstation folder over the internet,
specifically connecting to a folder on my local hard drive at the office from
home.  Here's my setup and my problem.

My home and office are connected by a VPN between the routers on each end.
I have no trouble connecting to shared folders on the server at the office
from home, however I cannot connect to a shared folder on my workstation.

Any ideas/suggestions on how to get this to work?

Can you ping the workstation by IP? You may have routing issue.

What exactly happens when you try? Can you ping by name? by IP? Can you
access the shared workstation folder from another PC on the same LAN?
Firewall disabled on the host computer (or set to allow file/print
exceptions from any subnet)?

Have you spoke to your IT support people at work to see if its even
possible? We specifically block people mounting network drives between
home/work machines over the VPN where I work.
