Hi,

I am trying to configure my office PC so that I can access it from home.
There is a proxy server which provides us with internet connection at work.

I tried following all the steps at the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/northrup_03may16.mspx

but I was not able to acess my work PC from home.
on typing the URL as mentioned in the web page above
(http://ipaddress:port/tsweb/ --- where ipaddress was picked using
whatismyip.org and port was assigned by me) I got the following error:
"   Proxy Encountered Error
Connection Timeout: Could not contact the remote server. Possible causes
include mistyped URL, transient network problems, overloaded remote server,
and misconfigured proxy server.  "

Can anyone please help regarding this. Am I missing something??

Regards,
Vibhor

Hi
You have to configure a specific computer in your Office to accept the
Remote connection,  the Port used by the Remote program has to be forwarded
through the Proxy and any Firewall to the specific local IP of this
computer.

Hi,

Do you mean that the Firewall at the proxy might be blocking the port?
I will try with port no. 80. I hope this will work since I access the
internet daily and I don't think this would be blocked.

Hi,

I tried this the other way round, just to make sure I am not missing
anything. I tried connecting to my PC at home through my office PC.

I accessed the path: (http://ipaddress:port/tsweb/ --- where ipaddress was
picked using whatismyip.org and port was assigned by me)

but got the error: "Unresolved IP address" from the proxy at office.

Meanwhile I still got the Timeout error when I access the office PC from home.

I would appreciate your help.

Regards,
Vibhor
