LANAdapter ProblemHello.I'm a novice.I will try my best to describe the problem.I have windows
xp sp3 32 bit. When the PC starts and the desktop is displayed i have to wait about 1 minute for the lan icon which shows aqquiring network adress and eventually it displays a yellow triangle(limited or no connectivity). After this i click on my broadband icon and i can connect to the internet. If i go to Lan Propreties and disable TCP/IP the error is not happening and i can quicly connect without waiting for the yellow triangle to appear. This started happening a few days ago i have tried uninstalling/rollback the Realteck Driver no succes.I also have an windows image program i restored back but the same thing happens.I only have an antivirus no other security program I just want everything to work as before. alin83 wrote:

If your current NIC is on the motherboard, disable it in the BIOS after you put in a PCI NIC and before you boot into Window. If this solves the issue, a new NIC is extremely inexpensive. If you have a laptop of course this will not be possible and you will have to call the laptop mftr.'s tech support. Malke alin83 wrote:

Windows also tries to use the latter, though this does not make sense, as you don't have other PCs on local network. Your tcp/ip address belongs to the "virtual" broadband connection. Since it works fine, the provider does everything right. What's going is that your broadband modem/router for whatever reason stopped to provide IP address to the real netcard - *or* the card had a fixed IP address, but someone has switched it to use DHCP. This is not a problem, because the netcard does not need an IP address. So you want just silence this yellow thingie. Disabling TCPIP on the netcard is just fine, other options are more troublesome. Don't tamper with the netcard driver, it is innocent. However, if the broadband router has a web interface, _and you want to use it_, the netcard needs to get a correct IP address. Your broadband service support can tell you what to do for this. Regards, -- pa On May 14, 9:23 am, alin83 <ali***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote:

Your PC appears to require you to "connect" to your Internet Service Provider. This would mean you might have a PPPoE style connection which requires a username / password. The PPPoE system, in XP, is a "virtual" driver than "may" use your Ethernet port (Realtek) or a USB port. This seems to be correctly set up on your PC.

Malke from my understanding the NiC is not on the motherboard,i also searched in BIoS there is no mention about it.I have a deskop PC.Still i don't exactly understand what you are sayin with "uninstall the network adapter (NIC) and swap in a known-working NIC".if you mean the Realteck driver directly through control panel or by device manager,i already did that Pavel A thanks also for the info.I don't have a modem,no web interface,i don't understand what you mean by "someone".Only i and my girlfriend are usin the PC(from what you see i'm a total noob when it comes to network) ,and we never had malware problems, and i have the OS Back-up program just in case. If there are no other solution i have to leave it as it is ,i'm frustarted and hate pC's becouse of this ,but i guess it could be worse alin83 wrote:

Contact your ISP and have them test the modem. For the NIC, I was suggesting that you remove the old NIC and put in a new one. If this is going to be too hard - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - have a competent local computer tech come on-site and check things out for you. Don't use a BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place. But I would call the ISP first since their tech support is free. Malke

The problem is that the Realtek adapter is not being "assigned" an IP address for the DSL broadband router. Only the PPPoE "virtual" adapter is getting an IP address once your "access" is "authenticated" with your ISP "authentication" server. You "could" set the Realtek "adapter" to not show the icon or assign an IP address to it. Several possible IP address ranges should be within the private IP address ranges: 192.168.2.xxx (xx=1 should not be used as several DSL modems are set to 192.168.2.1 -- SpeedStream 4x00 or 5x00 use this be default.) 10.0.0.xxx ( xxx=138 should not be used as the older Speed Touch DSL unit appear to use this address.)
