Multiple GatewaysI have two Lans connected to my PC1 with ip addresses for LAN1:192.168.8.4, it's gate way is 192.168.8.50,another Lan2:193.168.8.4 and gate way is 193.168.8.50.Both the Lan's were configured with same HOST Name "MMI1" in Host File Simillarly i was having another PC2 which was connected to the same network with two IP addresses of lan1:192.168.8.3, gateway is 192.168.8.50 and lan2: 193.168.8.3, gate way is 193.168.8.50.and Host Name was MMI2 My Problem was: I disconnected Lan1 of PC2 and started pinging the PC2 with host name from PC1 it is displaying Request timed out. switover is not taking place to other lan and in Command Promt it is displaying the IP address of LAN1 of PC2 showing request timed out. Can any one please help in the need how to switchover the gate ways automatically when any one of the lans got failure. Thanking you. Govind This is an incorrect IP setup, and will give rise to routing problems. 193,
in particular, is not an internal IP range. Since I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve I can't say much more. However if you're looking for a cable-failover option then read-up on 'teaming' adaptors. This does not require two IP ranges. http://support.intel.com/support/network/adapter/pro100/pro100sserv/sb/cs-008444.htm Show quoteHide quote "govindaraopeddakota" wrote: > > Hi > > I have two Lans connected to my PC1 with ip addresses for > LAN1:192.168.8.4, it's gate way is 192.168.8.50,another Lan2:193.168.8.4 > and gate way is 193.168.8.50.Both the Lan's were configured with same > HOST Name "MMI1" > in Host File > Simillarly i was having another PC2 which was connected to the same > network with two IP addresses of lan1:192.168.8.3, gateway is > 192.168.8.50 and > lan2: 193.168.8.3, gate way is 193.168.8.50.and Host Name was MMI2 > > My Problem was: > > I disconnected Lan1 of PC2 and started pinging the PC2 with host name > from PC1 it is displaying Request timed out. switover is not taking > place to other lan and in Command Promt it is displaying the IP address > of LAN1 of PC2 showing request timed out. > > Can any one please help in the need how to switchover the gate ways > automatically when any one of the lans got failure. > > Thanking you. > > Govind > > > Hi
LAN means "Local Area Network". You have only One LAN (Network). Its subnet is 192.168.8.x Your computer have two Network cards, one is assigned as 192.168.8.4 and the other is 192.168.8.50 (these are the Network Id numbers and are called IP number/address). The Gateway depends on what the network is connected to. As an example in most cases people have an Internet Router and its IP number is the Gateway. Since you did not described how your Computer/Network is connected, and how it gets the Internet, there is No way to further help. Please Note, the two LAN cards that come with many new computers are for special arrangement, they can not work at the same time on the same Network. In most cases there is No real use for the two. However there is a Psychological phenomenon of people can Not let go of unused computer component that sits there and do nothing. Jack (MS, MVP-Networking).
