Can't add websites as network places

I am attempting to setup a website as a network place but each time I try
using the Add Network Place wizard I get the message 'The folder you entered
does not appear to be valid. Please choose another.'

I have tried a number of sites but have only been able to create
www.bbc.co.uk as a network place. I have copy/pasted the url from the browser
address bar so I know it's not down to a typo.
An example of the format I pasted in is:           http://www.amazon.co.uk/

If anyone can help with this I'd be grateful.

Thanks

The purpose for My Network Places is to create a portal from your computer,
to another where information can be stored/transferred/etc. Your best bet
would be to go to the desktop, create a folder called "Internet Sites" or
something else to your desire, and within that folder, right click in an
empty area, go to "New", and then click "Shortcut". Then type the URL (
http://www.amazon.co.uk/ ), and give it a name such as "Amazon.co.uk" or
something else to your desire, and use the shortcuts from there. Hope that
helped.

I´v got the same problem - it is not possible to create networkplace to share
point portal (from any client/server). it has been working for a long time
without any problem; I did not find any reason on server or client for this
disfunction, Domain/Active Directory/SQL is OK.
Really important is that I have DISABLED webclient (i need it for some
application server solution). So that is the reason why recommended solution
above (folder/new shortcut as URL target) is not accetable for me - I need to
BROWSE from application for webfolder location. Is there any other chance to
refresh SPPS and allow network place for clients??? Any advice shoud be
really helpfull.
