DSL vs Cable router setupI unsuccessfully tried to set up a WRT54G Linksys router today for a new DSl
customer. The router and network would work briefly, then Internet access or network access, or both would just disappear. I know there were issues with the DSL, which just plain stopped for a while, but that issue was resolved with a call to Verizon. I suspect there is a software problem with the router, which uses a Linksys setup feature I've never seen before. Is there any basic diference betwen DSL and Cable in this situation? More specifically, if a router is set up and working properly with a cable connection, would the same settings work if the router was then transferred to an identical DSL network?

The dsl line here uses PPoE to connect to the dsl line... Perhaps cable is different. Jim The only difference is that a router is usually configured to log into a DSL
connection via PPOE. When PPOE is selected in the typical router, you can then enter the username and password and it will automatically connect. Other settings are normally the same as for cable. -- Show quoteHide quote"Hugh" <H***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:A7128B0F-8916-4CDC-953C-9981B5009387@microsoft.com... >I unsuccessfully tried to set up a WRT54G Linksys router today for a new >DSl > customer.
