HOME NETWORKINGDI-624 wireless router. Both running Norton Internet Security. They formed a nice little home network, with my printer connected to the 333. I wanted to enlarge one of the disks on the 333 for backups. Thinking that 98SE wouldn’t manage a 300GB disk(?), I upgraded to XP Pro on the 333. Both machines now connect to the Internet just fine. Using Win Explorer from the 8200, when I try and view what is on the 333, I get the following message: “\\ D333 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contac the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found.†If I attempt the same from the 333, I can see the ‘Workgroup’ but no computers that are on it. If I run ‘Network Diagnostics’ from ‘Help and Support’, on the 333, I get the following report(only the errmsgs included): “Network Adapters [00000001] Kingston EtheRx KNE100TX PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter (21143-PD) FAILED IPAddress = 192.168.0.100 (FAILED) Pinging 192.168.0.100 with 32 bytes of data: Request timed out. (times four) Ping statistics for 192.168.0.100: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss)†What is keeping me from connecting the two machines? Does having a mix of FAT32 and NFTS disks have any bearing? I am the ‘administrator’ of both machines, what ‘permissions’ do I need? What about firewalls?

If you're getting lost pings, but have a good physical network, firewalls and LSP / Winsock corruption is your best bet. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/irregularities-in-workgroup-visibility.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/irregularities-in-workgroup-visibility.html -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
