XP Can't Connect... Then Can Again!

I wonder if anyone can explain to me what's going on here. I took my
laptop to a client and connected to their network to access the
Internet. When I got home, I couldn't connect to any other machine on my
home network: it was the usual "You may not have permission to access
this resource" error. I can ping them, but not connect to shared folders
or printers using Windows Explorer.

A couple of days later I go to another client, and plug into their
network. When I get home, access to my other workgroup machines has been
magically restored.

So I guess that these networks are playing games with the setup on my
machine. If this happens in future, is there anything I can check to get
things back to normal?

Julian,

have a look at http://winhlp.com/ to find possible causes.
