security wireless set up

Hello,
I have recently got belkin wireless router, and i need help in making my
network sercure, how do i do this? I have read so much this past week and
have still not figured out how to do it. On my desk top computor i went to
network settings and it only had LAN setting, looked through all the
properties etc and i still cant work out how to do it, please help. There is
alot of people in my area with unsercure networks that i can see, so this
means they can see mine, please help me.
