I have a comcast modem and use a netgear router for a wireless connection to
my second PC. Everything was fine (I did have problems with my wireless
adaptor connecting on my second PC but that's for another day). I downloaded
McAfee security from comcast and soon after I lost my connectivity for my
main PC. I called comcast and they said my PC was not communicating with my
modem (could not pick up the IP address) the only thing I could think to do
was uninstall McAfee since that's when the problem seemed to start, still no
connection even when I dropped the netgear router and connected comcast modem
to my PC. I ended up reinstalling windows XP and now I can get a connection
when I directly connect comcast modem but when I try to connect the netgear
router I get the same problem I had before. No connectivity, no ip address.

Sounds like the Netgear has died. Try a different router.

Thanks Malke, I was thinking the same thing, I have been using this netgear
router for about 2 years and never had a problem before. I will try buying a
new one. Thanks for your reply.
