Wrong USB ports ??I have an old desktop with two USB ports. I want to connect it to my
wireless home network router, so I bought a wireless USB 2.0 dongle, 54Mbps, as the PC doesn't have a LAN connector. I have two questions : - how can I tell which standard ( 1.0 or 2.0 ) the USB ports are ? - if they are USB 1.0, can I use the dongle anyway, maybe with a reduced throughput ? Or it just won't work ? Thanks in advance. Mike If it is in fact an old desktop, you don't have USB 2.0 ports, only 1.1
it should work in either Show quoteHide quote "Mike" <toocool@no-spam-tin.it> wrote in message news:%23DWJkkTzGHA.2636@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >I have an old desktop with two USB ports. Most USB2 Wireless Dongles are down ward compatible with USB1.1 A functioning USB 2 needs an OS that is updated for USB2 (Like Win XP SP2), and Hardware that is compatible with USB2. If your system meets the two criterion, to find out whether USB2 is actually active on you computer. Log to Windows Device Manger click on Universal Serial Bus Controllers Here how it looks, http://www.ezlan.net/network/usb2.jpg Jack (MVP-Networking).
