the sharing delimna...need some adviceI know this is probably the most common question on networking XP home ....and prior to posting this, I've read and tried everything that I'm not afraid to change.. I've got a dell workstation wired to cable modem and a wireless 54mbps netgear router...wireless dell notebook...started w/ Intel PRO wireless software...and the internet sharing is fast & flawless... but never could share files or printer...now letting windows manage the network & still sharing internet connection fine & now the workstation can even see the notebook and even open/save files to it, but regardless of everything I've tried, I cannot get the workstation to show up in 'my network places' on the notebook...everytime I attempt to name the path in the 'add network place wizard', I get the 'cannot find path' error....'path does not exist'.....so I may not be adding the path correctly...not sure... when I view workgroup computers (on the notebook)...both the workstation and the notebook are there...but the workstation states:' \\desktop not accessible. might not have permission etc, etc...the server service is not started'... I just dont have the knowledge or experience to troubleshoot this any further...and really need some step by step help...I know there's alot of info out there about this problem w/ XP home, but I really don't understand the troubleshooting/repairing terminology... if someone would be good enough to take this on and offer me some assistance, It'd be greatly appreciated... Thanks for the time....and consideration... Hi
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings, http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what is allowed to be shared. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304040 Jack (MVP-Networking).
