New network wizard where router has no usb socket

Deejay

I am trying to set up a new secure network with the wizard. XP asks me to
insert my flash drive into my computer, then into the router and then into
every other computer in the network.

The problem is that my router doesn't have a usb socket. My modem does but
it is the old square socket. Would finding a wire for the modem be a
solution? If not, how do I set up the router?

I think you are misreading the directions. You don't set up a router by
inserting a usb thumb drive into it.

1. Set up the router by using its install disk or by putting its IP
address into a browser addressbar on a computer directly connected to
the router by ethernet cable. Refer to your router manual. If this is a
wireless router, set up the wireless security by changing the SSID and
enable encryption. See links below.

2. Then, if you are talking about the wireless network wizard, use it to
set up one computer. You can either use the thumb drive to transfer the
settings to other computers or, if wireless, simply enter the
encryption key into the wireless manager on the computers that are
trying to connect wirelessly. At no time do you attempt to stick a
thumb drive into your modem or your router.

3. If you are also trying to share files/printers on your local area
