Network key changes itselfMy son's wireless adapter was accidently unplugged, without being able to get
it back online when it was plugged in again. The problem seems to be the changing of the network key. I type it in, try to connect, and when I go back a shorter version is there. I try this over and over, but the sam thing happens. I can't figure out what setting for the Open WAP I am missing. Hi
First make sure that it works with the security Off. Then generate a key in the Wireless source (Wireless Router or Access Point). Copy the HEX string of the generated key, and paste it to the Wireless client. Jack (MVP-Networking). Reading the OP, let me assume that the card worked with WPA (assuming that by WAP the OP means WPA) before the "Accident", and that there is a place for key but only shorter version appears after generating a new key by the client. However if the "Accident" corrupted the drivers, and it is No more WPA compatible, then the drivers has to be updated and the system property has to be checked for ghost, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ghost Jack (MVP-Networking). P.S. I usually try give an answer even if it needs mild guessing. Long time ago I notices that if a clarification question is asked of OPs (or other procedural remark is made), the OPs do not return back. Giving an answer, might create boost the OP confidence to return back, if his the original question was not clear. ------------------------------------- Show quoteHide quote "Sooner Al [MVP]" <Soone***@somewhere.net.invalid> wrote in message news:A8282A2B-1127-45BB-9EA0-C9634AB9F393@microsoft.com... > "Jack (MVP-Networking)." <J***@discussiongroup.com> wrote in message > news:%23C4EaqL5GHA.4616@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >> Hi >> First make sure that it works with the security Off. >> Then generate a key in the Wireless source (Wireless Router or Access >> Point). >> Copy the HEX string of the generated key, and paste it to the Wireless >> client. >> Jack (MVP-Networking). >> >> "ConnieIL" <Conni***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:40AB99D8-0AD0-4EB0-80D2-DF97669F1F46@microsoft.com... >>> My son's wireless adapter was accidently unplugged, without being able >>> to get >>> it back online when it was plugged in again.
