Network/wireless protection query

I have a network setup with a desktop and a laptop.  The router is a Netgear
DG834 with Win XP.  This works fine but when I enable WEP protection, the
desktop (LAN connection) works but the laptop (on wi-fi) doesn't.  What am I
doing wrong, or not doing perhaps,?

Regards and thanks in advance
