Connecting to an existing hidden SSIDI am attempting to add a computer to my existing wireless network, which was
hidden by the person that installed it. I have what I believe is all the necessary information, but I haven't had much luck in attempting to find the wireless network on the new computer and obviously no luck connecting. If anyone could give me a breakdown of the procedure & info I need to finish this task, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much. Well how you do this depends on the software you are running and the OS. In
general terms, you'll need to create the network manually rather than find it. If you are familiar with your router the simplest thing to do would be to enable SSID, and allow your new computer to find the network, once it has, and is connected, then disable it again. Otherwise you'll need the SSID name, and you'll need to enter this, as the name of the wireless network you wish to connect to. Because your network is hidden you can not discover it, to Join the network in the automatic way. The other thing you'll need is the password for the network, and this generally works best if it is in a "hex" format. This is especially true if all the brands of the wireless equipment are not the same. You'll also need to know the format of the Security, is it WEP, WPA, or WPA2. If security was done correctly you'll also need to enter the MAC address of your NIC into the Wireless Router's access list. Since it is your Wireless you can easy make it visible and reconfigure to your own preferences. To make it visible you need to log to your Wireless source, and switch own SSID Broadcast. Your Wireless manual would be useful in telling you how.
