access via another wireless router?I have 8 computers (win2k & XP) networked with a wired router. I need to take
them into an office where there is internet access by a wireless network. I can't get a wire from the existing wireless router to the place I need to set up my network. Can I use a wireless router to access an existing wireless network or do they only create their own networks? Or do I need to set up one computer with a wreless card and run it as a proxy server? I have never done this so I have no idea if it is easy or difficult. I have a wireless router I can use. What would be the most reliable and easy to configure? Hi
Router used as a Router would create a second separate Network. To stay on the same Network you have to Bridge. May be this can Help. router. hardware you have and the location has. It's possible to set some but not all routers into a client mode, where the router would extend the wired network. This would give your 8 computers an address that would be common to the other computers in the network, they would all see each other. It may also be possible to add a wi-fi card to one of your 8 computers and set it up as a Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) computer, an ICS network will be at 192.168.0.xxx addresses and should not be connected to a system that is using 192.168.0.xxx so where you are connecting will determine if this is an option. With this option your 8 computers would be in there own Network, and would be seen as one address (the router's address) by the rest of the network. You could also buy a proxy server program and run it on one of your 8 computers and be able to connect to any network. -- Show quoteHide quoteDavid Hettel Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see.
