Let Windows manage neteorkHi
I have Windows XP home and a Belkin Wireless Network, where do I go to let Windows manage the Netwoks? I believe there is a setting somewhere in Windows but I cannot find it. thanks Daniel Control Panel | Network Connections | Right click on the wireless icon |

thanks, something is amiss here, when I right click on the wireless icon and select properties, there is no Wireless Network tab, the only tabs are General and Advanced? my guess is Belkin did not choose to write drivers that support WZC. I would suggest that you contact Belkin Tech support and see if they tell you it should work. I am using a F5D7010 but I cannot find the pdf you name, only drivers and flash install guides. I am using WEP not WPA should that make a difference? When I try and use WZC I get the message that windows cannot configure this wireless connection etc., I can't even view the wireless networks. I tried "Use Windows to configure etc"., in Control Panel and the card just goes dead. I then put the password into the "key box" in WZC and it began to acquire an address, this took what seemed like a few minutes, but it eventually woke the card up and connected. I then exited the Belkin utility. I am going to disable the Belkin Utility at startup now and see what happens. Ensure the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network Problem is no such Tab exists in my system on either PC, I would guess: settings" box is checked. that Belkin removed it. The Belkin manual says the right click on the Belkin icon on the system tray, but when I do that nothing happens?? Also I cannot follow the Belkin set-up procedure because when I right click on "Wireless network connection" and select "Properties" there is no Wireless Network Tab. I tries disabling WZC services and also tried resetting it to Manual, it just reverts to Automatic when I reboot. Man, this is so frustrating. cheers Daniel

Reboot and insert the PC Card. Windows will find the new hardware and offer to find a driver. This way you avoid installing the Belkin utility. What you do then depends on if Windows still has the driver somewhere in a cache on your HDD. In case it does, follow the procedure until you are asked accept the driver Windows finds to install. Now you can continue in two ways, by accepting the diver Windows finds and updating the driver later on; or not accepting and going back and choose a driver manually. You should already have downloaded the latest driver from Belkins site (be carefull here - Belkin has 5 or 6 different driver versions for their F5D7010 cards on the site. Look for a sticker on the card to find the correct version - mine says VER.1314yy - but I'm not sure if that means ver 1. It's confusing!) and preferably be installing that driver. Then activate WZC, now hopefully without the Belkin utility being somewhere on your computer and with the missing tab back on the network control panel.

I tried that a while back, the Belkin CD not only installs the network monitor utility but also the card driver. Uninstalling the Belkin software will uninstall both utility and driver. Inserting the card to let windows sort out the diver results in being asked to insert the Belkin CD and that just loads the whole thing back in again. Must admit, I never tried looking for just a driver folder on the CD though. Daniel, What happens when you right click on teh Belkin icon? Do you not get the option to "exit" the utility? You can also prevent this utility from starting by typing msconfig in the "Run" dialogue box, select the Startup tab and uncheck the Belkin tick box. In the first case you may be able to access the .cab file with Windows Explorer (I'm not sure, because I have W2K and not Xp) or with a third party utility like Windows Commander, and extract the driver from the .cab file. In the second case, I don't know of any way, except downloading the driver in a separate file of it's own from Belkin's site.

I am not familiar with Belkin's card (I have Belkin Routers, but No cards). However, what you describe does not appear to be "Normal" Behavior. I would suggest that you log to Belkin's support and look for the card page and the faq (if any), or and contact Belkin Support Jack (MVP-Networking).
