1394 LAN connection lockedplus and it has worked fine until yesterday. Late in the day everything on my UPS crashed including my Sony. When it booted back up it locked the 1394 LAN connection. I am writing from a Compaq using wireless on a Netgear WGT624 router. Another computer is hardwired to the router and did not crash so it is working fine. An old machine used as a server is doing well also even though it was involved in the crash. Has anyone ever seen the little lock on the 1394 symbol in Network connections? I have tried removing the 1394 net adapter and reinstalling. I have tried going back to a previous restore point. I have removed Sygate firewall and turned off the Microsoft firewall. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks, John I believe what you are describing indicates that it is firewalled, bring up
Windows firewall, click on the advance tab, and uncheck the box in front of the 1394 LAN connection. -- Show quoteHide quoteDavid Hettel Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. It is the Firewire connection.
If you are not using Firewire connection you do not really need it, might be that you lost the regular LAN card. What you refer to as a lock might be a ghost installation of the component http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ghost Older VAIO use to come with both LAN Card, and Firewire. Newer VAIOs usually come with Wire LAN, Firewire, and Wireless. I would suggest that you should look at you manual, system, and see what is using what? Jack (MVP-Networking).
