Router logcan go to that will explain Routers to me in layman's terms. I am trying, at the moment to understand what the log readings mean. I also have encryption set to WEP but I understand WPA is more secure, but when I try to change my settings I'm asked to supply other settings etc which is all gobbledegook to me. The manufacturers website does explains things but you need to know the terminology and how things work for it to be understood. I am connected to the Internet via phone line to my desktop PC which is connected to a broadband modem which in turn has a wireless router connected to it which allows my laptop to share the Internet. So is there a website that explains such things in plain language? TIA B.W. i wouldn't say they're wouldn't be, but i strongly recommend to upgrade from
WEP, they're are sick people out there with software which can crack your WEP code in under 5 minutes so i suggest you get an IT techo in to help you, he could do some simple maintance on your router and also configure both your PC and router for best security preformance Cheers Jimmiboi -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If this solves your problem please press this answerd my Question below -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Show quoteHide quote "B.W." wrote: > Being very new to Routers and networking, I wonder if there is a website I > can go to that will explain Routers to me in layman's terms. Wireless Router is a device that combines in the same plastic box, Routing circuits, four ports switch, and an Access Point, these three components are connected together, but in a way, they are three independent components. Though the word security is used for Internet and Wireless, it is Not related one to the other. Internet Security protects you from the Internet through the Router’s NAT Firewall. This part of the device does care whether the local computer is wired or wireless. The Router’s log usually shows the content of the flow between the Internet and your total system by IPs. Wireless Security protects you from local leeching into your Local Network through the Wireless connection. I.e. it does not know, and does not care whether you have Internet connection or just using few computers for Local network activities. If you want to examine the content of each computer and the Router, you have to install on each computer Software Firewall that keeps good log on each computer. Jack (MVP-Networking).
