hi,

laptop running win xp receiving internet wirelessly & configured to share
internet & wired to LAN port #1 on WRT54G router (not WAN port)...
LAN settings of router:
static ip 192.168.0.150
dhcp disabled

both wireless & lan connections of laptop enabled...
internet works fine only until i actually plug in the ethernet cable to
router, then no more surfing...

any ideas appreciated

thanks.

What is the IP address of the wireless connection?  If it is 192.168.0.x,
ICS will not work.  If this is the case, you might be able to get it to work
by manually configuring TCP/IP on LAN adapters with 192.168.1.x addresses.
Also the LAN adapter in the ICS machine should be at the top of the binding
order and have no default gateway.

thanks,

ip of wireless connection on ics host is obtained automatically & no default
gateway
from an upstream wireless router & internet connection is flawless
until i connect ics host lan adapter 192.168.0.1
into separate wireless WRT54G 192.168.0.150
at lan port #1...
at that point the ics HOST loses internet connectivity

A possible explanation is a 192.168.0.x wireless IP.  When you are connected
wirelessly, open a command prompt and:  ipconfig /all ENTER

What is the IP address of the wireless adapter?

What I hear you are suggesting, can not be. On the pc that is running ICS,
the wireless connection that is receiving the Internet connection must have
a default gateway address. Without this address it will not know where to
send request to. If you are running ICS the IP address may not be
192.168.0.xxx on this NIC. On the NIC that ICS is supplying internet with,
their should only be a value of 192.168.0.1 and a Subnet Mask of
255.255.255.0. Anything other than this will break ICS in my experience.
Your WRT54G router needs both it's DHCP (server) and NAT disabled. What you
want is an access point, not a router.

Probably you could avoid this whole issue by killing ICS and simply bridging
the connections:

Jack (MVP-Networking).
Hi
Change the Core IP of the Linksys to something like 192.168.1.10, so it will
on the same subnet as ICS.

Hmm If you follow Jack's instructions you'll need to enable both the DHCP
server and NAT on the Linksys, and anything attached to it will be on a
separate LAN. Also I believe you may need to attach to it by way of the WAN
port. I believe Jack was trying to suggest that the computers connected to
the Linksys and the ICS computer need to be on different IP address.

I was under the impression that you wanted one LAN not two.
