Windows XP file sharing oddness (any ideas?)

Recently, I reinstalled Windows XP on two computers on my LAN.  After
the reinstall, I noticed some odd behavior when I try to copy files to
a shared folder.  Specifically, I'm unable to copy any files or folders
that contain more than 0 bytes of data from any of my shared folders on
one specific computer to any other computer (this is a generalization,
but see below for the specifics).

By means of explanation, there are three computers on our LAN
(apologies for the odd names):

Core2 - a desktop connected via ethernet cable to the router
Snarla - a desktop connected via ethernet cable to the router
Snickers - a notebook connected via wireless to the router

My problem ONLY occurs with shared folders on Core2.  In other words:

If I'm on Core2 and open a shared folder on Snarla or Snickers, things
work fine: can copy files to and from Snarla or Snickers' shared
folders.
BUT, if I'm on either Snarla or Snickers and open a shared folder on
Core2, I have the problem.

For example, if I have a shared folder on Core2 and access it from
either Snarla or Snickers, I can see the folder fine (it shows up in my
network places, I can open the shared folder and see all the contents).
While accessing the shared folder from Snarla or Snickers, I can:

o Copy files from Snarla or Snickers to the shared folder on Core2.
o Delete any file in the shared folder.
o Unzip a .zip / .rar file from the shared folder to the local drive of
Snarla or Snickers.

However, I can NOT:

o Copy a file or folder from the shared folder to the local drive of
Snarla or Snickers IF AND ONLY IF that file has more than 0 bytes of
data in it.  (In other words, if I create a next txt document or
Photoshop document using the RIGHT CLICK -> NEW commend, these
documents are 0 byte docs and can be copied fine.)  But any file or
folder that contains files with more than 0 bytes of data CAN'T be
copied.  Specifically, when I attempt the copy, the COPYING dialog box
pops up, the progress bar grows just like the file is copying normally,
but when the bar reaches the end and the file should be finished
copying, I get the following error:

"Error Copying File or Folder

Cannot copy New Text Document: Access is denied.

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is
not currently in use."

The target drive isn't full or write protected, and the target file
doesn't seem to be in use (this occurs after reboots for both systems
and for newly created or long-ago created files).

With respect to the 0 byte filesize issue, it's a little stranger than
I've indicated above.  I'm hoping that some of the anomalies that I've
noticed might provide more info or clues as to what's going on, so here
are some examples:

NOTE: All examples are done from Snarla or Snickers - in otherwords,
sitting at the keyboard of Snarla or Snickers - and opening a shared
drive on Core2.

Example 1 - Trying to copy a normal / more than 0 bytes txt file (just
for clarity):
a. Try to copy a txt file (or any file or folder with > 0 bytes in it)
from the Core2 shared folder to either Snickers or Snarla - CAN'T COPY
THIS

Example 2 - Trying to copy a txt file - 0 bytes or more than 0 bytes:
a. Create a new txt file on the Core2 shared folder (this is a 0 byte
file) - can copy this
b. Rename the txt file on the shared folder - can copy this
c. Rename txt file again on the shared folder - can copy this
d. Rename txt file again on the shared folder - can copy this
(Basically, you can rename the file over and over with no difference in
results - can always copy)
e. Open the txt file and put data in it - can copy this even though
it's now more than 0 bytes
f. Open the txt file and put MORE data in it - can copy this even
though it's now more than 0 bytes
g. Rename the txt file that now has data in it - CAN'T COPY THIS

Example 3 - Trying to copy a folder with a file in it:
a. Create a new (empty) folder - can copy folder
b. Create a new (0 byte) txt file in folder - can copy folder (with txt
file inside)
c. Rename folder - can copy folder (with txt file inside)
d. Rename the txt file that's in the folder - can copy folder (with txt
file inside)
e. Rename txt file in folder again - can copy folder (with txt file
inside)
f. Open the txt file and put data in it (now it's more than 0 bytes) -
can copy folder (with txt file inside)
g. Open txt file and put still more data in it (even bigger than 0
bytes now)  - can copy folder (with txt file inside)
h. Rename txt file in folder (not that the txt file is bigger than 0
bytes) - CAN'T COPY FOLDER (with txt file inside)

Example 4 - Trying to copy a photoshop file:
a. Create a new psd (Photoshop) doc in the Core2 shared folder (this is
a 0 byte file) - can copy this
b. Rename the psd doc (still 0 bytes) - can copy this
c. Open the psd doc and save it as the same name (now the file is 20k)
- CAN'T COPY THIS

What's odd to me is the discrepancy between example 2 and 4.  The txt
file can still be copied when it's bigger than 0 bytes, but once I
rename it after it's bigger than 0 bytes, it can't be copied.  The
photoshop file, however, can't be copied once it's got more than 0
bytes in it - no need to rename the file to prevent it from being
copied.

>From my amateur point of view, this all seems like a permissions issue,
but I have no idea what's actually going on or how to fix it.  I've
noticed a few posts mentioning Kaspersky and file sharing problems, but
I can't find anything specific to my issue, and my problem persists
even when Kaspersky has been terminated on all three machines.  For
reference, here are the specs of the three computers as well as the
router:

Computer - Core 2:
XP pro sp2
Connects to router via cable
Simple file sharing enabled with guest authentication
Guest account properly activated
Local security policy -> User rights assignment -> access-deny fields
are correct
Running base Windows firewall
File and printer sharing is selected as an exception in the firewall -
all of the following are checked:
tcp 139 subnet
tcp 445 subnet
udp 137 subnet
udp 138 subnet
TCP/IP Settings -> Advanced Settings -> WINS -> NetBios Setting was at
"Default."  Changed to "Enable" but this didn't fix my problem.
IPX is NOT installed
Running Kaspersky anti-virus personal 5.0.527

Computer - Snarla:
XP home sp2
Connects via cable to router
Running base windows firewall
File and printer sharing is selected as exception in the firewall - all
of the following are checked:
tcp 139 subnet
tcp 445 subnet
udp 137 subnet
udp 138 subnet
TCP/IP Settings -> Advanced Settings -> WINS -> NetBios Setting was at
"Default."  Changed to "Enable" but this didn't fix my problem.
IPX is NOT installed
Running Kaspersky internet security 6 with anti-hacker disabled

Computer - Snickers:
XP pro sp2
Connects to router via wireless card
Simple file sharing enabled with guest authentication
Guest account properly activated
Local security policy -> User rights assignment -> access-deny fields
are correct
Running base Windows firewall
File and printer sharing is selected as an exception in the firewall -
all of the following are checked:
tcp 139 subnet
tcp 445 subnet
udp 137 subnet
udp 138 subnet
TCP/IP Settings -> Advanced Settings -> WINS -> NetBios Setting was at
"Default."  Changed to "Enable" but this didn't fix my problem.
IPX is NOT installed
Running Kaspersky anti-virus personal 6

Router - Linksys wrt54g ver. 2.0
(Note: this router is running an open source linux-based firmware)
Firmware: X-Wrt RC6
Webif: Webif2 r1339
Kernel:    Linux 2.4.30 #1 Thu Nov 16 13:44:17 EST 2006
Device:    Linksys WRT54G3G
Board:    Broadcom BCM947XX

I'm also attaching (for each computer) the output from the following
commands:

o ipconfig /all
o browstat status
o net config workstation
o net config server

Hopefully this will provide a clue for someone who knows how to read
the output.  A lot of stuff here looks suspect to me (error 53, etc),
but I really have no idea what I should be looking for.

Finally, I should also mention that I first noticed this issue soon
after the reinstall of Windows XP on the Core2 machine.  At the point
that I noticed the issue, I'd already installed most of my software
(including Kaspersky), so it's hard for me to know if a specific piece
of software (Kaspersky, for example) could be at fault.  I wish I had
more details.  If there's any other data that you'd like to know,
please ask.  Oh, and for the record, I've gone through all the steps on
Chuck's blog:

<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/irregularities-in-workgroup-visibility.html>

But can't seem to find a solution.  And Chuck, if you happen to read
this, thank you so much for your blog.  It's mindbogglingly amazing.
Microsoft should hire you to redo MSDN :)

Thanks for any help.

Jon

Make sure that you have allowed full access to the folder. You must allow
the folder to be written to. Right click the folder and click sharing and
security. Make sure the Allow network users to change my files check box is
checked.
