hotspot ???an old friend has opened a very small cafe near a college in a small town in
Ontario, Canada... $$$ is extremely tight but she thinks that if the cafe was a wifi hotspot more students would come by... am i stupid or can it be as simple as ordering a high speed cable isp & using a simple WRT54G type of router ??? there would likely never be more than about 5 laptops surfing at any time... are there additional fees to the isp for doing this ??? thanks, mike. Yes, technically it is that simple. However, you'd have to be very careful
of the EULA police. Consumer plans normally prohibit "sharing" or "reselling" of their services. Personally, depending on my perceived risk (what are they likely to do if they catch you! - disconnect service?) I'd probably go for it. Since the operation is very small, as you say. Yeah, I know I'll get flamed for this viewpoint, but... -Frank Show quoteHide quote "mike" <mikeyTJ2***@canada.com> wrote in message news:OXH%23ObuFHHA.2296@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > an old friend has opened a very small cafe near a college in a small town > in Ontario, Canada... > $$$ is extremely tight but she thinks that if the cafe was a wifi hotspot > more students would come by... > am i stupid or can it be as simple as ordering a high speed cable isp & > using a simple WRT54G type of router ??? > there would likely never be more than about 5 laptops surfing at any > time... > are there additional fees to the isp for doing this ??? > > thanks, mike. >

However, HughesNet has it's own limitations.... both access speed and MB downloadable and uploadable. So in effect their limits limit the total amount of traffic the cafe could handle. I really think they would have to check with the cable internet provider that services the area to know for sure. Charlie Hoffpauir http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~charlieh/ |
