Why wont wireless work with my desktop when it works with all my laptops???I've two laptops and two desktops at home. All have XP and the ones on the desktops are freshly installed. I have a DSL model with a linksys wireless router in front. I'm using wireless adapter cards with my laptops (different types) and they work with the wireless router perfectly and took no fiddling to get them running. I've tried HW wireless adapter card (on my PCI bus) and a USB wireless on both of my desktops and they never work. The HW card worked when I first installed it for a few minutes and then stopped. Both are able to see other more faint wireless networks (e.g. my neighbors!) but they never see mine. I've tried 2 different vendor's HW cards and a USB one was from Linksys so it's not a vendor quirk. The desktops and laptops are all located in the same room. I even moved my desktop so it was right next to the router and there was no change. At this point, it has to be some weird software setting on my desktops but what?? Any suggestions? Thanks, Kumar I can think of one reason why your desktops might not see your router. That
is because you have SSID disabled on the wireless router. -- Show quoteHide quoteDavid Hettel Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. It is a strange story, first time I here something like this. There should not be any difference between installing and making the Wireless work on Laptop or a Desktop. Most Laptops come installed with the Wireless, so it might be that while you are installing Wireless Hardware by yourself you are doing something that causes it. This page has a collection of Wireless information may be you would find there the answer. http://www.ezlan.net/#Wireless This might help in the basic installation, http://www.ezlan.net/debug.html Jack (MVP-Networking).
