No Wireless or LAN Connectivity on Dlink DI-524 Router

Hello,

I am using a Dlink DI 524 (rev C) router.

I recently played around with some of my Wireless settings for some stupid
reason. I have done so by going to TCP/IP Properties and putting in specific
IP and DNS addresses. However, I have changed the settings back to what I
originally had - "Obtain and IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server
address automatically".

Since I have changed the settings back to the originals, I have been unable
to go on the Internet via both my wireless connection AND a LAN line. So even
connecting a cable modem directly to the computer does not work. In both
situations I get the "Limited or no connectivity" line, although the signal
strength is fine and my brother's LAN connection from the router works fine
too.

I keep getting the "169.x.x.x" IP address because my DHCP cannot assign a
valid IP address from the network.

I'm at the end of the road and do not know what to do. Any help would be
much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not a technically inclined person and should not have done that
tweaking. If

Hi
Not being able to connect directly with the modem might be authentication
issue (ID and Password), the process is probably done by the Router..
You best bet is to try to solve the problem via wire connection.
Try to assign to the Wire TCP/IP connector a static IP that is on the same
subnet as the Router, if you would be able to connect to the Router you
might be able to reconfigure the system.
If the Router is 192.168.1.1 assign to the wire connection a static IP of
192.168.1.20 (the first three groups must be the same).
May be this can further Help, http://www.ezlan.net/debug.html

Have you rebooted after doing this? If so my guess is you have also changed
the network password or key, I would suggest that you try re-entering it.

A novice, but one who has had to do a lot of fiddling with an overheating
DLink (won't let me in to configure unless I put it in the freezer
first...), but suggest your ISP may be expecting your brother's pc mac
number.  You will be able to use the wire connection if you turn off the
cable modem first: unplug your brother, and plug in yourself.  The router
normally acts as the mac number the ISP is expecting, then it shares out its
own IP addresses to all the machines you want to connect to it, fooling the
ISP that there is only one person connected. (as I understand it!)  So if
for any reason you are bypassing the router or some of its functions only
the first machine to connect is recognised by the isp.

You may find it starts to work properly if you tell the router to clone the
mac number to all attached devices, and it probably won't hurt to make sure
your brother has his pc set to obtain its ip addresses automatically too.

Seems to be quite a confusing number of ways these things can be
misconfigured!

Good luck...
