Intermittent wireless connectivity issues

I have a home network with one desktop connected wired to the router and up
to 3 laptops.  My office laptop (Dell), running XP Pro, never has a problem
connecting.  The other two (both Toshibas), running Vista home and XP home,
have intermittent problems.  The most common is something that I've seen
discussed here, but not really answered.  I see limited or no connectivity
messages, along with sluggish or no responsiveness from the browser although
the signal strength is excellent and the monitor reports the correct SSID.
Also, especially on the Vista machine, we can see a graphic indicating that
it is conected to the router, but not to the internet.  note that before this
point (and sometimes after) there is connectivity, so there is nothing we are
actively doin.

There's probably a setting I'm missing, but I'm not sure what it is.  Any
help would be appreciated.

I would check if there is a new firmware for the router and driver for NIC.
If yes, you may try to setup the wireless without security for
troubleshooting.
