Log-in Issue when trying to share files with VISTA & XP machinesrouter and an XP machine that uses a wireless adaptor. I am trying to share files between both computers. I have them both assigned to the same workgroup. There is no problem accessing the folders that are on the VISTA machine from the XP machine. When I try to access the files on the XP machine from the VISTA machine, I am asked for a password & user name. (I didn't think this was necessary since I am using XP Home edition). When I enter the user name and password that I use for logon to the XP machine, I get an error that the Password or User name are not recognized. I suspect that the problem is with Windows or the way I am entering the user name because I know that I am entering the password correctly (spelling and case) I have tried enter the user name a variety of ways: 1. I have tried just entering the user name since the dialog box already acknowledges the Computer name. 2. CHRIS\KenS (where CHRIS is the computer name and KenS is the user) Any help would be appreciated Hi
Make sure that the Software Firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall On, Vista/XP Native Firewall should be Off, and the active Firewall has to adjusted to your Network IP numbers on what is some time called the Trusted Zone (consult your 3rd Party Firewall instructions.
