Router SettingsI have a CE device that needs to access a Vista PC that is plugged into a
wireless router/network switch. When both the CE device and the PC are connected wirelessly to the router, I can ping the router from both and I can ping the CE device from the Vista PC, but not the other way around. If I connect an ethernet cable to the router instead of connecting wirelessly, I can ping the PC from the CE device. I presume I need to set up some sort of routing on the wireless router to tell it to pass packets from the CE device to the PC, but I haven't much idea of how to do it. The CE device, PC and router all have static IP addresses and the router is a BT Voyager 2100. Thanks in advance for any help. Andy Baker Could both PC and PC be in different subnets? Posting the results of
ipconfig /all on both computers may help. -- Show quoteHide quoteBob Lin, MS-MVP, MCSE & CNE Networking, Internet, Routing, VPN Troubleshooting on http://www.ChicagoTech.net How to Setup Windows, Network, VPN & Remote Access on http://www.HowToNetworking.com "Andy Baker" <abaker@NOSPAMvanputer.com> wrote in message news:Ua-dnSb01bjejXrUnZ2dnUVZ8qSdnZ2d@posted.plusnet... >I have a CE device that needs to access a Vista PC that is plugged into a >wireless router/network switch. Thanks for getting back to me. The static IP addresses (from IPConfig on the Vista PC) are:- Router 192.168.1.1 CE device 192.168.1.97 Vista PC 192.168.1.12 and the subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0 in each case. I am no networking expert but I believe that this means they are on the same subnet. Is there anything else I need to set up in Vista. As I say, I can ping the handheld CE device from the PC but not the PC from the handheld - this suggests something to do with the router to me. See if it has a DMZ / "Isolation Mode" or a similar setting, creating separate VLANs between the Ethernet switch and the WiFi radio. <http://networking.nitecruzr.net/2005/05/your-personal-firewall-can-either-help.html> http://networking.nitecruzr.net/2005/05/your-personal-firewall-can-either-help.html
